Question Netflix

You Sir just fucking rock. Thanks a lot.

Le plug-in ne fait pas juste débloquer Netflix, effectivement. Apparemment que ça permet aussi d'accélérer ton internet. Je sais pas trop comment par contre. Anyway, tu peux jeter un oeil à leur politique de respect de la vie privé.

How does Hola affect my privacy?

Hola's network receives much of the same kind of information you currently send to your ISP when you surf the web. Since Hola's communications are typically encrypted, it provides a higher level of privacy than regular HTTP browsing. Hola collects information such as web sites visited and URLs loaded in order to accelerate the Internet for other Hola users. Hola also caches encrypted copies of the content you've viewed in order to assist other Hola users that have access to the same content. For example, if you've read an article in the NewYorkTimes.com web site, and another Hola user has access to the same article, that other user Hola client may load parts of that page from your cache, if your computer is idle. You can stop the Hola acceleration by pressing 'Stop Acceleration' in the Hola menu.

Does Hola keep track of what I do on the Internet?

No. Our servers do not store the pages that you look at.

Does Hola make me anonymous on the web?

Hola Unblocker does not provide the highest level of anonymity as opposed to traditional VPN services, since with Hola Unblocker only part of the traffics goes via a proxy, and part does not, to increase the speed. If anonymity is the most important issue for you, use a traditional VPN service: it will slow your Internet surfing speed by a magnitude and will mostly likely cost a fee, but will provide you with high anonymity.

It's a choice between partial anonymity and speed vs complete anonymity.

Why does Hola need the various permissions for the Chrome extension and the Android app?

In order to accelerate your data traffic and to keep you anonymous, Hola must act as a proxy for your data thus requiring various data permissions. Hola also needs to create an ID for your Android device which it does from the various hardware readings for which it also needs additional permissions. Hola does not make this information public, and does not disclose or sell it to any third party.

Does Hola share any of my personal information with the rest of the Hola community?

No. Hola handles your HTTP requests exactly like HTTP web proxies do according to the HTTP RFC standards, and in a similar way to how ISPs do it in the normal course of your browsing. That also covers 'Cache:' public/private HTTP headers and the correct handling of them.

Compliance to these HTTP standards is what keeps your private data private.

Does Hola cache my SSL (HTTPS) data?

Since SSL is normally used for highly sensitive private matters, Hola does not parse and cache SSL connections. Therefore these connections do not benefit from Hola's peer-to-peer caching and compression.

How can content owners make sure that a piece of content doesn't get cached by Hola?

Easy: They can use HTTP's standard 'Cache-Control: private,no-store' in requests/responses, and Hola will not cache this information.
